When I learned I could teach adults using the same creative techniques I used to teach kids, we all learned a lot more and had a lot more fun! Whether in libraries or conference settings, with writers, teachers, or writing teachers, my goal is to demystify the creative process by providing tools and techniques to increase confidence, joy, and a sense of purpose.

Let’s talk about how we might design a workshop that fits your needs.

Here are a few of my most popular presentations for teens and adults:

Be a Fiction Magician! Tricks & Tips for Writers

Writers are magicians. We pull rabbits out of hats, heroes from certain death, and stories out of thin air. You’ll amaze yourself in this hands-on workshop as new manuscripts appear or works-in-progress transform before your very eyes. Dazzle your readers with card “tricks” that help you amp up the emotional impact, suspense, and conflict in your stories. Keep your cool with “tips” that help you reduce those same elements in your writing life. Bring a manuscript, an idea, or nothing but paper and a pen, and watch the magic happen. Magic wands included!

Writing Momentum

Has your desire to be a writer become a nagging regret? Have you ever said you’re too old, too young, don’t have time to write, or don’t know where to begin? Creativity coach and author Deb Lund will help you understand and navigate the creative process, get you going with some quick and easy activities, and send you away with ideas for keeping up your writing momentum. Bring your doubts, fears, and questions, and begin to transform your inner critic into an inner creativity coach.

Piggyback Picture Books

Need an idea? Borrow one! We learn by imitating. It’s how we learned to talk, and it’s how we learn to write. We’ll explore the formats, voices, characters, plots, and themes of current picture books to inform our own writing. Writers often unintentionally borrow from the books they’ve read, so why not be intentional about it? It’s not cheating. It’s learning from the masters.
